Surfboard Leashes
Read More
A truly essential bit of kit, a surfboard leash keeps your board attached to you whilst surfing and can be a lifeline in challenging conditions. Leashes come in a range of sizes from 5ft up to 12ft and are also available in different constructions to suit the needs of each surfer, board type and the different types of waves you intend to surf.
What length should my leash be?
Generally speaking you want to match the length of your board so if you have a board close to 6ft opt for a 6ft leash, if your board is right in the middle of two sizes like a 6'6 then it's often best to go a bit longer than the board you so should opt for 7ft leash.
Leash Types:
Regular
Aka standard, all round, essential. These are your standard leashes, often with a 7mm diameter cord, these leashes are suitable for the vast majority of surfers who surf in a wide range of conditions.
Comp
A Comp leash is a slimmer leash with a slightly thinner cord diameter, this makes the leash lighter and create less drag on the wave, however comp leashes are not as strong as thicker leashes which is why they are recommended for smaller waves up to 3 ft.
Big Wave Leashes
Big wave leashes are stronger, thicker and longer to accommodate the violent power of bigger waves some big wave leashes also feature a quick release pin, so you can ditch your board when things get really hairy.
